This morning it was just too nice to not do something…

So I went running. It wasn’t as pleasant as I thought it would be… due to the fact that I forgot gloves and the temps were in the low 30s when I started. Weekly Mileage is up to 25 despite the achilles tendon issues.

Oh, Where does the time go?

Time for me to start writing about what I Logged on to write about…. (That was an awkward sentence to write.)

Today started off nice enough… Great weather and an itch that only climbing could scratch. With Julie out of town I was left to wander and explore on my own. With everything in the mountains being wet I headed out to malibu creek for some fun in the sun. I got there and was amazed at how empty the place was but I packed my things and off I went.

I made my way towards the planet of the apes wall and started up the Walk the Moon Traverse. I had just rounded the corner and was on my way to the top and all of a sudden my right hand hold came flying off and I fell back onto my left hand. I was kinda freaking out but somehow I kept my cool and made my way to the top. When I got down to the base I found a printer sized piece of rock just a few feet from my pack. Wow, that was really really close. It was crazy, on the walk in this morning I kept hearing Reardon’s voice in my head going on and on about 3 points of contact at all time. Now I know why. I walked back to the car (thoroughly glad to be alive) made some lunch and hiked out to the mash site. It was really cool, I had never seen it before. The set looked so small in real life compared to the show.

Things I learned today: Always keep 3 points on while soloing.

Wow, my last post was quite a while ago.

Sorry about that. It’s been very busy down here lately. School is really intense but things are looking up for next semester, which hopefully is my last. Things have been rather slow since I broke my foot. For some reason I haven’t been able to kick things into high gear (i.e climbing or running all the time) Here is a brief glimps into what the past few months have held….

That seems to be about it… Well for the most part.

We’ll have to see if I can find some more motivation to post and to climb more often.

Back on Track.

These last few weeks I have really been just trying to get back some sense of normalcy since breaking my foot. Running has been one of the few outlets I have and with Dave Moving back I have been able to get some fun runs in and meet a lot of very psyched ultra-runners. A while back Dave called me and asked if I wanted to help him set up an aid station for the people who were doing an AC100 training run… Normally I would not give up part of my weekend for running but it just felt right to go running.

Since that weekend not much has been happening. Its too hot to go climbing and when it cools down my partners disappear. Since partners are few and far between (at least for me) I think I’m going to start rope soloing again. There are a lot of new ways to go about it, the most promising of which looks like a combo of the Petzl Shunt and the Ascension Ascender.

Beach WEEKs…

SO a few weeks back Julie and I went to Suicide Rocks and tried to get in Wall mode. I had an idea to warm up on a fun looking 5.3… Well… That fun looking 5.3 turned into an Adventure. 60ish feet up I had a choice, climb up a not so fun looking chimney or climb a dubious looking flake. I stalled out, unsure of where to go I called down to Julie and after some discussion it was decided that I should climb the flake. The run out wasn’t all that bad nor was the climbing but about 10-15 ft into the run-out my foot popped and I took a not so nice 30ft fall onto a ledge. When I finally made my way to the doctor 2 days later it was found out that I broke my foot.

The last few weeks have been quite boring. I’ve been keeping my strength up with a fairly intense hangboard routine… and when I’m not in school I have been headed towards the beach whenever possible.
